Kevin Farrell was born on September 4, 1979 in Rohnert Park, California. His first musical encounter was with the piano in the third grade. Drum lessons soon followed. At age 12, with the encouragement of a friend of the family, Kevin, then already an award-winning soloist, auditioned for the Jazz Band at the local college where he assumed the drum chair. By age 13 he was gigging regularly all over the San Francisco Bay Area. It was at age 16 he discovered the bass guitar and abandoned the drums completely.

A scholarship to California Institute of the Arts brought Kevin to Los Angeles where he would stay for roughly seven years. It was here that he honed his skills with distinguished teachers such as Charlie Haden and Mark Dresser, and later John Clayton and Alphonso Johnson. Kevin also braved the LA session scene playing everything from film dates to hip hop sessions at Stones Throw as well as bebop and chamber concerts. During this time Kevin also began to make a name for himself internationally, dividing his time equally between Los Angeles and Europe as a sideman and solo artist.

A call from a dear friend who had just landed a publishing deal with Sony led Kevin to New York City where he currently resides. It was here where he honed his composition skills. He also performed and recorded with heavyweights such as Joey Calderazzo, Bennie Maupin, Mark Whitfield, BD Wong, Mingus Big Band, Bat for Lashes, Allen Tousaint, and Asobi Seksu, as well as session work for Sony, BBC, GQ, 4AD, Banana Republic, Dreamworks, Hollywood Records and EMI.

In 2010, a fateful meeting with multi-platinum producer Mario Winans led to recordings at Daddy's House Studios for Bad Boy Records. This collaboration resulted in Kevin laying basslines for artists on the Bad Boy roster as well as playing on tracks for Drake, Jennifer Hudson,R.Kelly,Diddy,Toni Braxton,Musique Soulchild,Rick Ross, and Cassie.

An artist of seemingly limitless scope, Kevin still finds time to compose--- recent commissions have included works for the Tribecca Performing Arts Center (Composer in Residence for “Writers in Performance) Blue Rose Trio, Edinburgh Arts Festival, and the Ahmanson Foundation. Kevin Has also released two critically acclaimed albums of his own music, “10,000 mph” (BBP records) and “FourTrio” (Arsenic Free Records) with Deutsche Grammaphone artist Devin Maxwell.
